SHOES IN CIRCLE

The SHOES IN CIRCLE project was a collaboration between the artist, a shoe manufacturer and engineers. This is a real revolution in the footwear industry. Using advanced technologies such as circular knitting, parametric design, 3D printing technologies, Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics, we have managed to create an innovative product that not only combines tradition with modernity, but also promotes sustainable and efficient production. The use of parametric programming, 3D printing technology and knit uppers allowed us to create custom, personalized shoes with a sole designed with a unique fingerprint texture. Thanks to this, we not only eliminate excess product, but also reduce the negative impact of production on the environment.

This solution was developed through the EU-funded Better Factory project. The 3-year project, funded under the European Commission H2020 programme, empowers European manufacturing SMEs to enhance their global competitiveness by harnessing the combined expertise of artists and technology providers. Through generous funding of up to €200,000, teams embark on a 16-month journey to innovate and refine their processes, supported by the project’s 28 expert partners who are located all over Europe. Throughout the programme, the participating conventional factories have been transformed into lean-agile production facilities, capable of manufacturing new and personalized products along with existing ones.
